Job Description
Based at Bruce House, Wellgate, Arbroath.
This job is workstyle 4.
In this workstyle work is carried out at different locations and employees are office desk based for less than 50% of their working time. Additional time may be spent when required in a council building to use collaborative spaces or for meetings, training and mentoring purposes.
A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Food Safety Officer to join Angus Council.
Based within the Food & Safety Team, you will receive training and guidance ahead of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) professional examinations for the Higher Certificate in Food Practice, as awarded by the Scottish Food Safety Officers’ Registration Board, in 2024.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to apply for Food Safety Technical Officer roles within the council following the award of the Higher Certificate.
Applications will only be considered if you have confirmation from REHIS that your qualifications meet the requirements of the Scottish Food Safety Officers’ Registration Board and you can confirm this by contacting REHIS with details of your qualifications and experiences.
Please note that you should have at least SCQF level 8 (equivalent to HND level) qualification in a science related subject and experience in a food related discipline for this to be considered.
We are looking for someone committed to a career in Food Safety. Strong communication skills and a customer focused approach are essential. Knowledge and experience of Food Safety is essential.
A flexible approach to working, IT skills and a working knowledge of the role of a Food Safety Technical Officer within a local authority setting are essential.
This job is temporary for up to 12 months from date of appointment.
Internal and external applications on a secondment basis will be considered. You must have the approval of your line manager / organisation.
