We are looking for a committed, passionate and inspiring member to join our team as an Attendance Pupil Support Officer (PSO). Are you skilled in helping support children and young people disengaged from learning or who are experiencing difficulties in their lives? Do children and young people respond well to your support?
Your role will be crucial in helping to address the poverty related attainment gap.
Experienced PSAs or those who can demonstrate their experience working with children and their families are encouraged to apply. This role will involve supporting children and families with attendance, working with groups or individuals to improve literacy, numeracy and social skills as well as building trusting relationships with children and their families which may involve support within family homes.
It would be desirable for candidates to have previous experience in the following areas:
- Training in providing nurturing approaches to lead groups and track impact
- Ability to raise attainment by supporting learners through targeted interventions and strategies
- Ability to support emotional and behavioural needs as well as general Health and Wellbeing through using a variety of approaches, e.g. ASD training, Lego Therapy etc
There will be training opportunities provided once the successful candidate is in post.
This post will be to serve the Firrhill Learning Community comprising of Firrhill High School, Bonaly, Longstone, Oxgangs and Pentland Primaries. The schools work closely together and are very supportive of each other. The catchment includes both Dreghorn and Redford Barracks with many of the military children attending the school, which means it has a very transient school roll.
Please note that this post is subject to review and also has a mobility clause meaning there is a chance that the successful candidate could be moved to a different school in the future.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
