Pupil Support Officer - fixed term until 26/06/2025
Portobello Learning Community based in Brunstane Primary School
Salary: £28,046 - £32,010 (pro-rata for sessional)
Hours: 36 per week, 39 weeks sessional
This post is an exciting opportunity to work within the Portobello Learning Community. (Portobello High School and feeder primaries, Brunstane, Duddingston, Parson’s Green, The Royal High and Towerbank)
Portobello Learning Community aims to improve the wellbeing, attendance and attainment of the pupils in the learning community by providing targeted support to remove emotional, practical and financial barriers to effective school attendance.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and solution-focussed individual who will plan a suite of interventions to support pupils and their families to overcome barriers to effective school attendance.
These will include Mental Health supports such as:
- anxiety management programmes
- Bereavement/loss programmes for pupils and adults
Deliver Parenting Support Programmes.
Connecting Families with 3rd sector support.
Providing Practical Support through:
- Running a community foodbank
- Support with grant funding, uniform bank applications, FSM applications, best start grants, etc.
- Supporting attendance at pupil health appointments (eg CCH, SALT, CAMHS)
- Making applications to the care experienced fund
Making partnerships with other support organisations to build capacity and expertise within the learning community.
Build on existing pockets of expertise and relationships within the community to ensure an impactful start to the project.
The suitable candidate will have previous experience of building relationships with people who may have previously disengaged from support services.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
