We are Scotland’s busiest planning authority, handling over 3,000 applications a year, in a city with internationally-valued built and natural heritage.

The Council is also the Statutory Addressing authority and responsible for the namingof streets in new development and the numbering of any new properties being created. Planning and Building Standards currently has a vacancy in both the Development Management and theStreet Naming and Numbering Sections. These are small and therefore busy teams, working in a dynamic environment.

For both roles we are looking for individuals who are committed to delivering anefficient, effective and customer-focused service. You will be responsible forhandling a varied and challenging range ofstatutory duties for either the process of validation and handling of information for planning applications, or for naming streets, numbering properties and related services. You will need to be highly organised, with the ability to collate, evaluate and present information in an accessible way. The ability to read and understand maps, architectural drawings and plans is essential. You must be able to manage your own time as working to statutory deadlines is key to these roles.

For the Development Management Technician role you will provide technical support to the processing ofplanning applications, planning appeals, enforcement cases and related work, and provide specialist advice to applicants on pre-application consultation to ensure it meets statutory requirements. You will also check fees are correct and deal with enquiries from elected members, the public, developers, solicitors and other parties regarding thesubmission of applications.

For the Street Naming Technicianrole you will be required to undertake research and determine potential new street names in accordance with statutory addressing guidelines for new streets, number or renumber individual properties in response to statutory addressing applications, organise the supply, erection and maintenance of street name plates using the Council’s contractors, and deal with enquiries from elected members, the public, developers, solicitors and other parties regarding statutory addresses and street name plates.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 6 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
