Headteacher Primary (7/09127)

St Joseph’s RC Primary & St Ninian’s RC Primary

HT03 £62,625

Combined Roll: 42

We are seeking to appoint a leader with vision and a passion for learning who will, along with a management team of two Principal Teachers, lead learning at this soon to be formed partnership between St Joseph’s RC Primary, Stranraer and St Ninian’s RC Primary, Newton Stewart. This post offers an exciting opportunity to shape educational provision within two school communities which have high aspirations for all.

St Joseph’s RC Primary is situated in the town of Stranraer, on Loch Ryan. There is a ferry port in nearby Cairnryan with regular services to Ireland. St Ninian’s RC Primary sits within the ‘gateway to the hills’ town of Newton Stewart. The A75 Euroroute links the towns and is a 30-minute drive. The towns are very picturesque, and both have the advantage of being close to the sea.  The area offers excellent opportunities for leisure and recreation. These include walking (on beaches, in forest and on hills), sailing, fishing, cycling (both on and off road), a wide selection of golf courses, tennis together with a range of indoor facilities.

Both schools sit within the district of Wigtownshire in Dumfries & Galloway. St Joseph’s RC Primary is associated with Stranraer Academy and St Ninian’s RC Primary is the Douglas Ewart High School, Newton Stewart. The current school rolls are 35 at St Joseph’s RC and 11 at St Ninian’s RC. Each school will benefit from having a Principal Teacher. The schools both have well-established Parent Councils which are supportive of the life and work of the schools.

Dumfries and Galloway’s approach to Education looks to combine the traditional values, ethos and atmosphere of this unique corner of Scotland with fresh 21st Century thinking.  We are seeking to appoint a leader with vision and a passion for learning who will lead learning within this new partnership. The post represents an excellent opportunity to be innovative in developing our culture of sharing and learning.  Our authority has been recognised as having a clear focus on building staff skills to improve learning and teaching, raise attainment and develop strong leadership.

Applicants will have proven leadership qualities and experience in primary education and be committed to very high standards of achievement.
