Requirements

You will have minimum HNC/SVQ level 3 in Social Care or SVQ 4 or ability to undertake this within registration timescales.

Responsibilities

You will contribute to the creation and maintenance of a high quality Care Environment in which Children and Young People are assured of safety and security to grow and develop, to promote the rights of Children and Young People to make use of services and information, as appropriate, to their full advantage and to enable effective communication by and with Children and Young People to this end.

The Individual

You will have experience and understanding of working collaboratively with children and young people and their families and carers. You will also have experience of care planning, assessments and reviews for young people, residential care and writing reports. We require people who are motivated and who want to make a difference to the lives of young people accommodated by Dundee City Council, who are committed to high standards of care for children and young people. You will be part of the management team within the young person’s houses and will supervise and support care staff. Experience of supervising and managing staff is desirable but not essential. You will have experience of working effectively in a team. You will have good communication skills, both verbal and written, the ability to undertake CALM procedures and moving and handling procedures. You will be motivated, show confidence in decision making and be self-reliant. You will have knowledge of the needs of young people and understanding of the emotional practical and social care needs of young people. You must be able to work evening and up to 31 weekends per year. You will have ability to be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council within a specified timescale. This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check, prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
