Inverclyde is in West Central Scotland, just 20 miles from the centre of Glasgow. The region boasts great scenery, a vibrant housing market and great transport links to Glasgow and beyond.

Inverclyde is home to 81,540 people, making us one of the smaller local authorities in Scotland (although, as you'll read elsewhere on this site, that doesn't stop us having big ambitions!). The region includes a variety of towns and villages including main towns Greenock, Port Glasgow and Gourock on the Firth of Clyde, and smaller coastal towns and villages such as Inverkip and Wemyss Bay to the South West, while further inland you'll find picturesque rural villages such as Kilmacolm.

Voted one of Scotland's top four investment locations in a 2006 survey, the area is enjoying substantial regeneration with major investment in schools; leisure and retail facilities; and housing – numerous big name builders are currently creating a range of new homes in the region.

All together it adds up a rather tempting prospect.

Please be aware that if you are visiting Greenock, there is an exciting £23.5m project to transform the town centre, improve links between the waterfront and retail areas, and create new civic and green spaces.

The redevelopment of Central Greenock will be carried out in phases, starting in January 2026 with the demolition of Hector McNeil House. Thereafter, the eastern section of the Oak Mall, A78 High Street flyover and the Bullring Roundabout will be pulled down.

The main roadworks phase of the redevelopment is due to begin in early 2026 with a new low-level road and signalised junction installed to replace the flyover and roundabout. A refreshed Oak Mall entrance, additional public areas, and more greenspaces will also be created as part of the project. Works are expected to be completed in 2027.

During this time, public transport will remain fully operational, with the bus station and main bus routes continuing as normal. Any temporary changes will be communicated by local operators. Access to key central streets including West Blackhall Street, West Burn Street and Cathcart Street will be maintained throughout the works, although some disruption may occur around Wallace Place, Container Way and Dalrymple Street as activity progresses near the Bullring Roundabout. A wide range of parking options will continue to be available, many offering the Ring‑Go payment system for easier Pay & Display. The Bullring Roundabout and Hunters Place car parks will remain open until January 2026, while the King Street car park may be closed for part of the project.
