Wee Brae is a bespoke Complex Needs Provision with excellent facilities including an inspiring outdoor area. Applications for this post are invited from Early Years Practitioners who have an interest and experience in supporting children who experience barriers to their learning through additional support needs. An understanding of trauma informed practice and the vision and energy to promote the high standards of this school in our Complex Needs Provision are necessary. There are four classes taught by a team comprising Class Teachers, Learning Assistants and Early Years Practitioner, and led by a Principal Teacher. This provision engages with a wide variety of partners to support families and enhance the experiences and outcomes for our children.
Post holder must hold a practitioner level qualification (e.g. SVQ3 in Childcare & Early Years Education or an HNC in Childcare and Education, or equivalent) that meets the requirements for SSSC (Scottish Social Services Council) registration.
Qualifications which were previously recognised for SNNEB/NNEB registration may be acceptable.
An up to date first aid certificate is required.
An SQA module of at least 1 credit at SCQF level 7 on supporting Additional Support Needs which is accredited at the Practitioner level with the SSSC
and at least two post-qualification modules in appropriate subjects such as:-
- Behavioural Management
- Early Literacy
- ICT and Special Equipment
- CALM or Team Teach training
- Alternative language and communication methods
- Language and Communication Difficulties
- Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
An up to date first aid certificate is also required.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on you working 36 hours over 39 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £25,594.53 per annum.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with children.
