The Dumfries and Galloway Hard of Hearing Group was established in 2008 by a resident of Dumfries who had hearing loss and felt more could be done to support people with hearing loss in D&G.

Initially we ran 4 hearing aid care and maintenance clinics for people with NHS hearing aids.  By 2012 the group had expanded to 13 clinics which were run by trained volunteers. At that time the volume of work managing the services prompted the organisation to employ its first member of staff with responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the group.

During February 2014 the group became a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

Since then, the group has continued to grow and develop services for people with hearing loss, their families and the people who support them. The number of clinics has increased, and services have been extended to people in their own homes and to residents in care homes.

Recently we introduced community based social groups where people with hearing loss can enjoy the company of others in a similar situation.

All of these services are delivered by our trained and experienced volunteers.
