Job Purpose

Our Wellbeing Practitioners support people to lead full, active and socially connected lives, supporting people to achieve the things that matter to them.

Applicants should have, or be willing to work towards, a qualification meeting the standards required for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

Job Details

We are looking for a male* Wellbeing Practitioner member to join a team of enthusiastic and confident Wellbeing Practitioners to support a 28 year old man in his own house. This position is on a permanent part-time basis of 32-hours per week. This person lives in Craigmillar, Edinburgh. This team support his development and learning to make a positive difference to his life.

The ideal candidate would have a clean driver's license, and experience of working with people with autism, and a learning disability. A working knowledge or willingness to learn Sign-along/ British sign language would be advantageous. The candidate will also need to be flexible with regards to shift patterns and will be expected to work one shift per week starting at 10am and finishing at 10am the following day and work additional hours to cover annual leave.

About this opportunity

He has a diagnosis of both autism and a learning disability. He is very able and enjoys many wellbeing based activities such as going for walks, going to the gym, swimming, cooking, going to the cinema art, music therapy and sensory activities.

He has limited verbal communication but communicates very well using Signalong.

We are looking for a person who has experience working with people on the Autistic spectrum and behaviour that may be challenging. Taking time to get to know him is very important, and good communication skills are essential in order to reduce anxiety, confusion, behaviours and foster positive relationships with the young man.

You will be required to maintain good communication with his family and team in order to maintain a consistent approach at all times.

As he has his own transport a clean driving licence would be desirable in order to allow him to access activities within the wider community.

This is a great opportunity to make a difference in a young person’s journey into becoming more independent.

Support is provided 24/7, Monday to Sunday 10am -10pm, sleepover, 7-10am.

It is vital that the new team member has weekend availability.

The hours will be comprised of shifts on a 3 month rota basis decided by and agreed upon by the team.
