Our Housing Support Services work alongside individuals and families to help them maintain their tenancies, build confidence and develop the skills they need to live independently in their communities. We provide person-centred support that promotes wellbeing, choice and inclusion, helping people achieve their personal goals and sustain successful tenancies.

No two days are ever the same. You could be supporting someone with budgeting and money management, accessing benefits and essential services, attending appointments, improving life skills, connecting with their local community, or building confidence to maintain their home and tenancy.

This role is about far more than practical support. It's about building trusting relationships, encouraging independence and helping people overcome challenges. Some days you may be supporting someone to access healthcare services, learn new skills or achieve a personal goal. Other days, the most valuable support you can offer is reassurance, encouragement and a listening ear.

We're looking for people who are kind, patient and respectful. People who believe in dignity, empowerment and helping others achieve positive outcomes. Experience in care or support work is welcomed, but it isn't essential. What matters most is your attitude, values and commitment to supporting people to live successful and independent lives.

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous due to the nature of the service and the geographical area covered, although this is not essential.

About the role

Our Wheatley Care Dumfries & Galloway service has 3 services;

• Young Persons project which provides accommodation and support to young people who are ‘looked after’ and/or care leavers aged 16-25 years
• Temporary Accommodation project that provides accommodation and support to people who are experiencing Homelessness
• Sheltered service which provides support to people who are 55+ and living in Wheatley Homes South’s Sheltered accommodation.

The service provides a Housing Support Service with the goal of supporting individuals to develop the skills for independent living and promoting independence. Our approach is trauma-informed, person‑centred, and strengths‑based, ensuring that individuals feel safe, respected, and supported to move forward positively.

Who are we looking for?

Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinators play a key role in supporting customers to stabilise their housing situation and access the services they need. This includes providing practical and emotional support, helping customers to claim appropriate benefits, register with local housing providers, and access wider community resources. Where specialist input is required, staff work closely with partner agencies to ensure coordinated and effective support.

All staff receive comprehensive training to ensure they are equipped to meet the needs of our customers. This includes a full induction programme delivered by Wheatley Care, alongside a local service induction and supported shadowing within the service. Ongoing training and development opportunities are provided to support staff in their role and professional development.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar support environment and a sound understanding of the Health and Social Care Standards. They will work in a trauma-informed, objective and non‑discriminatory way, recognising the impact of trauma and supporting individuals with empathy, dignity and respect. The postholder will demonstrate a strong commitment to working positively with a diverse range of people, supporting individuals to live safe, fulfilling and independent lives.
