Supervising Social Worker

West & South Scotland

Full Time (37 hours) plus rotational out of hours on-call support

£42,017 p/a (plus £4,200 car allowance)

About the role

We have a brilliant opportunity to join our team as a Supervising Social Worker. As a supervising social worker, you are the key link for our foster carers with local authorities, and will ensure quality of care for children and young people; identifying positive matches providing support, supervision and development opportunities for foster carers as appropriate. Your role is not only working with our foster carers as you will also link in with children and young people – checking in with them regularly to ensure their view and wishes are being heard and they are supported to achieve positive outcomes and are happy, safe and feel loved.

As a service we continue to grow and your role will also allow for supporting potential foster carer applicants; building relationships with them as they progress from pre-approval training through their assessment as foster carers.

A typical week

Our team are located across Scotland, and this role will support a caseload of around 12 of our amazing fostering families who are located in the West (and South) Scotland. While most of your time will be spent working remotely, at times there will be travel to our office base in Falkirk for team and other meetings – all with advance notice and planning.

Our carers consistently share that they value the relationships they have with the staff team, particularly their supervising social worker. The flexibility of working with Care Visions Fostering ensures that our team are able to provide excellent support to our fostering families, while managing your own diary. Our full-time team members generally work their hours Monday to Friday during core office hours. We provide out of hours on call telephone support (incl. weekends) and our SSWs support this on an 8-weekly rota basis (along with a manager) with an additional daily payment in respect of this.

Who we are looking for:

We would love to meet someone who is a proactive team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work flexibly, and independently. You must have a good working knowledge of child protection procedures, legislation, and regulations in relation to looked after children and fostering. A good working knowledge and understanding of the challenges facing children, their birth parents and foster carers is key, as well as excellent report writing and assessment skills. Experience of assessing prospective foster carers would be advantageous.

  • Degree in Social Work or relevant qualification in the field, such as DipSW, CQSW. (essential)
  • Registered with the Social Services Council, or other British equivalent along with PVG scheme membership
  • Solid experience in fieldwork, residential or in a family placement setting
  • A full driving license and use of car (travel will be required).
