Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

To work as part of the early years and childcare team to take responsibility for the
delegated organisation and management tasks required to plan and deliver the early
learning and childcare service for children and their families.

To support the Early Years Practitioner, Pupil Support staff and students, to deliver a
flexible, high quality early learning and childcare service in order to meet the
individual needs of children and their families ensuring their wellbeing and improving
the outcomes for children and their families using the service.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

SCQF level 9 qualification, BA Childhood Practice or equivalent or experience
in undertaking delegated duties and be willing to work toward the SCQF level
9 or equivalent.
Registration with or eligibility to register with SSSC
PVG Membership for Regulated work with Children and/or Protected Adults or
willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

Contribute as a member of the early learning and childcare team to the
delivery of an effective early learning and childcare service.
Create a supportive and nurturing ethos in which children are encouraged and
supported to develop their self esteem, self confidence and respect for others.
Undertake appropriate duties in the absence of the teacher or member of the
Senior Management Team.
Undertake specific operational duties as agreed by the senior management
team.
Lead the day to day supervision of Early Years Practitioners and PSA’s in the
operation of the nursery.
Undertake the PRD for Early Years and Childcare Practitioners
As part of the early learning and childcare team, use professional skills in the
planning, implementing, assessing and evaluating of the early learning and
childcare services.
Observe and interact with children in order to support their learning
Ensure reporting of children's progress and record keeping is in line with the
school’s policies.
Ensure the care and health & safety needs of the children are met.
Collaborate with others involved in children's learning and development
(parents, carers, teaching staff, health visitors, etc.) at all times maintaining
confidentiality.
Keep abreast of current theory and practice by undertaking continuing
professional development.
Participate and in the absence of the teacher lead all aspects of team work
within the setting including professional development of early years and
childcare students, preparation and care of resources, maintenance of
cleanliness and hygiene and contribute to staff and team discussions.
