Job Description

We are looking for a Social Worker to join the team on a full time, fixed term basis as a Supervising Social Worker covering Huntly and the surrounding area.

Fixed Term for a period not exceeding 07 July 2025.

As a Supervising Social Worker within our friendly and supportive Fostering service, you will have responsibility for the support and supervision of Foster Carers in Central Aberdeenshire. The post is a fixed term post covering maternity leave. It is flexible and allows for hybrid working within an office base and from home.

The purpose of the role is to support and supervise fostering households as part of the duties required under the Children (Scotland) Act 1995 and the Looked After Children (Scotland) Regulations 2009. The Fostering service is also a registered care service and is therefore regularly inspected by the Care Inspectorate in line with the Health and Social Care Standards. The duties required of this post include: formal supervision of Foster Carers every 4-6 weeks; supporting the learning and development of Foster Carers and their family; supporting Foster Carers to attend and participate in Looked After Child Reviews, Children's Hearings, and other meetings to ensure the multi-agency planning for the child; and liaising with the fostering family, the child's family and other professions to find the best outcomes and support with planning for the child's care. Supervising Social Workers are also responsible for the completion of statutory checks for the fostering household and the formal review of a Foster Carer's approval through annual, independently chaired Foster Carer Reviews as well as consideration of their approval in line with statutory regulations at the Aberdeenshire Council Fostering Panel.
Fostering Social Workers are also responsible for receiving and responding to referrals from the local Children and Families team as well as covering duty on a rota basis.

There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the organisation.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Requirements

This post has a minimum requirement of two references, one of these must be your current or most recent employer.
