“Angus is a great place to live, work and visit”
We provide a wide range of services from home care services to street lighting, and everything in between. We're responsible for leading, developing and supporting the community we serve and for providing key local services and infrastructure for the 110,000 people who live here.
Our 5,000 strong team deliver the services and support that makes this happen, whether they're in visible roles such as teachers or more in the background such as members of our legal and IT teams. We're the region's biggest and most varied employer, operating from our Forfar headquarters and sites and offices throughout Angus.
We value our employees and offer a number of benefits for working with us, this includes:
Equality, diversity and inclusion
We are positive about equality, diversity and inclusion and are committed to promoting opportunities for all. We are proud to be a disability confident, a carer positive and an armed forces friendly employer. We have our Defence Employers Recognition Scheme Gold Award. We run regular events, activities and awareness raising initiatives with a focus on equality, diversity and inclusion across the organisation and have policies and procedures which support this. We welcome applications from all, particularly those from under represented groups. We offer a guaranteed job interview to the following people who meet the essential criteria on application for a job: those with disabilities, recognised caring responsibilities and care experienced young people. This also applies to our own employees with caring responsibilities, young people on apprenticeships and placements who meet the essential criteria for the job.
We are open to discussions about flexible working with employees.
Where you see the ‘Happy to Talk Flexible Working’ logo on our job advert, we welcome queries and discussions from applicants about flexible working options during the recruitment process.
Many of our roles are advertised as being suited to hybrid and homeworking. We support this with the tools and technology to help employees benefit from working in a variety of work locations and at home to suit the work that they do and their personal lives.
This includes making the most of our ongoing digital investments and improvements to work at alternative locations.
We offer a generous amount of annual leave to our employees. Our local government employees get 26 days annual leave per year plus seven public holidays. After five years of continuous service, this increases to 31 days. Our employees can also purchase up to 10 additional annual leave days per year. Those on teachers’ terms and conditions get 40 annual leave days per annum plus 25 school closure days.
Our pension scheme is run by the Tayside Pension Fund for Local Government Employees. As an employer, we contribute 17% to our employees’ pensions who choose to be part of the scheme. To learn more, please visit Tayside pension fund website. The Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) administer pensions for those on Teaching terms and conditions.
Salary sacrifice schemes and discounts
We offer a number of salary sacrifice schemes including a car lease scheme, annual leave purchase scheme and a cycle to work scheme. An Angus Council ID badge and employee number can also offer you great discounts on retail, eating out, travel and other great services across the city (and further afield).

We will provide you with opportunities to develop the skills you need to do your job and to continue to grow during the time you work with us.
We offer comprehensive induction; opportunities such as coaching, mentoring, job shadowing, workshops and e-learning; employee voice sessions to allow you to have your say; and annual performance and development reviews, based on our values, which help you grow into your role as well as highlight opportunities for further career development.
Your successes, large and small, will be recognised through our Hive Five feedback opportunities and through our council-wide Great People campaign.
