Job Description

Children, Education and Justice Services

Depute Headteacher
Blackhall Primary School

Salary £66,072
Hours: 35 per week

Blackhall Primary is a vibrant, happy school comprising 15 classes of 375 children. We have no school nursery but work closely with the primary schools in our Royal High School Learning Community and with partner nurseries around the North West of the city. Our Senior Leadership team consists of a Head Teacher, one Depute Head, a Principal Teacher and a Business Manager.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and skilled DHT to become part of this lively community and to help lead our children, teachers and wider staff in a positive and dynamic school experience. Knowledge and experience of Early Years, Learning through Play and Support for Learning is highly desirable but not essential. Candidates must, however, have experience of being part of a Senior Leadership Team, as PT, ADHT or DHT level. We are looking for excellent teamwork and communication skills, a deep understanding of the GIRFEC processes and ASL, and a high level of pedagogical knowledge and practice. This role comes with a small teaching commitment.

Shortlisting and interviews for this post will take place after the start of term in August 2024.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.  Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
