Early Years Officer -
Canaan Lane Primary School

Salary: £30,751-£36,312 per year

Hours: 36 per week 7.45am - 6pm (shift pattern), 52 weeks

Canaan Lane Primary School opened in August 2022 with a large Early Learning and Childcare facility set within the ground floor of the building. We have capacity for 80 places across a range of full year and sessional placements.

Our Early Learning and Childcare team quickly became part of the new school family at Canaan Lane. This dynamic and energetic staff team consists of Senior Early Years Officers, Early Years Officers, Early Years Practitioners and Early Years Assistants. Staff are included and involved in decisions about how we are developing our approaches and the way we work to support the needs of all our learners. It is important that everyone feels part of our school family.

Our Early Learning and Childcare learners enjoy large, bright open-plan playrooms and an attractive outdoor space which is shared with our P1 learners. They have access to a local woodland area where Nature Kindergarten activities take place throughout the week.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Early Years Officer at Canaan Lane. We are seeking a hard-working individual who has excellent experience of working within the early years. They must be able to demonstrate their ability to provide leadership for one of our staff team groups and have the skills to deliver a high-quality service with enthusiasm and creativity.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page Our Behaviours – The City of Edinburgh Council

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
