The position is a varied and challenging statutory role suitable for a motivated and enthusiastic individual, which will involve dealing with the unique challenges that exist working as a licensing standards officer in Edinburgh as Scotland’s Capital City.

The post holder will be expected to work a shift pattern across the City as required, working within the busy day and night time economies to deliver service priorities and conform with applicable legislation. The post holder will operate a two days on, six days off rota within the range of 10.00 to 04.00. Each shift will be 10 hrs 17 minutes long with a half an hour unpaid meal break, and attract a Working Time Payment on top of the advertised salary.

The successful candidate will have experience of complaint handling, investigation and enforcement when dealing with complex legislation, demonstrating knowledge of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 and its secondary legislation.

The post holder will be expected to offer guidance, provide mediation, and monitor compliance in relation to the Act including taking appropriate enforcement action as required.

Excellent communication skills are essential, with the successful candidate demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people including members of the public, council officers, the licensed trade, elected members and partner agencies including Police Scotland.

A full valid driving licence is required.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain the Scottish Certificate for Licensing Standards Officers Qualification within 18 months of appointment.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
