Place

Building Standards Senior Building Standards Surveyor
Waverley Court

Salary: £42,717 - £50,550
Hours: 36 per week

We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the role of Senior Building Standards Surveyor working within a diverse and professional department.

Edinburgh is a dynamic and growing city, and the Building Standards Team has a key role in the continued development of our capital city by processing around 5000 building warrants a year. We aim to provide a seamless development consent process with close collaboration between professionals in different service areas. You can be part of this exciting journey, helping to facilitate these opportunities whilst ensuring construction works within the city are designed and built to meet safety standards, further sustainable development and ensure the safety of people in and around buildings.

You would be responsible for processing complex building warrants, supporting team managers in their activities and inspecting dangerous/defective buildings. Further, you would play a key role in developing Surveyors, Assistant Surveyors and Graduate Apprentice Surveyors whilst playing an integral part in delivering improvement projects for the service to maintain high levels of performance and customer satisfaction.

You will have the ability to work as part of a team or on your own initiative to manage a diverse caseload. You will have good communication, IT and organisational skills and be committed to a high standard of customer care. With these requirements and responsibilities, comes a range of the most interesting Building Standards surveying work in Scotland.

We are working in a hybrid way at this time which will encompass aspects of home, office and site working. Our modern open-plan offices are in Edinburgh City Centre, 5 minutes’ walk from Waverley Station. The Council provides a wide and far reaching variety of services making us unique as an employer, and our varied rewards cater to the needs and wants of our employees. At our core are our values which describe the behaviours that all Council employees are expected to demonstrate in the workplace:

  •  Respect
  •  Integrity
  •  Flexibility

If you are interested, you should bring relevant experience, a strong sense of customer service, excellent communication skills, a clear understanding of quality assurance and an appetite for project delivery and continuous improvement.

If successful, two references will be required.

If you wish to discuss any aspects of the role or have any questions prior to applying, please contact Gary Gilruth – 07885 477 546.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
