Senior Engineer - Road Safety

Salary: £40,275 - £47,654
Hours: 36 per week

An opportunity has arisen take up a senior position within the Council’s Road Safety team. The postholder will play a key role in the successful delivery of the new Road Safety Action Plan for Edinburgh to 2030, which is currently under development. We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic individual to undertake this challenging but rewarding role.

Public consultation on the new Action Plan will take place in the coming months. The draft Plan contains a series of ambitious targets, including zero fatalities and at least a 50% reduction in people seriously injured on the city’s streets by 2030.

A Road Safety Improvements Delivery Plan for 2023-24 is in place and this contains the following major workstreams:

  • Pedestrian crossing improvements
  • Accident Investigation and Prevention measures
  • Speed limit reductions
  • Speed reduction measures
  • A review of the Travel Plans for every school in the city
  • A review of safety for people walking and cycling at major junctions
  • Road safety and active travel awareness and behaviour change initiatives

You should hold a relevant degree or equivalent qualification. Experience in the project management, design or delivery of road safety improvements and successful completion of the RoSPA Road Safety Engineering course would be advantageous.

The team undertakes hybrid working, with the office base being the Council’s main office at Waverley Court, next to Waverley Station.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
