The City of Edinburgh Council is looking for a motivated, innovative and dynamic individual to take on the role of Senior Festivals and Events Officer. Edinburgh is the leading festival and events city and this role offers a unique opportunity to be at the heart of how it all works.

This role offers the opportunity to manage, lead, co-ordinate and assist in delivery of the Events Strategy for the city. This means being productive and proactive in collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that events are well planned and delivered to enhance Edinburgh’s reputation as a vibrant and sustainable world leading cultural capital.

  • Lead the implementation of the city’s Events Strategy, working collaboratively with others to ensure that events are well planned and delivered.
  • Manage the Council’s cultural events budget, developing an annual programme of events that deliver and support the Events Strategy, within the allocated budget. This will mean managing and monitoring expenditure and ensuring that costs incurred are effectively contained within the available annual budget. It is essential that all events supported demonstrate best value for the Council and the city.
  • Be responsible for the management of the Edinburgh’s Winter Festivals contract, including preparing for future procurement activities in good time to ensure effective handover of activities. Organise and contribute to the annual evaluation of the Winter Festivals, including preparing information for consideration by Elected Members.
  • Co-ordinate on behalf of the Council the annual delivery of the Summer Festivals and on other festivals and events taking place in the city. This will include engaging with festival and event organisations and providing advice and support on the successful delivery of festivals and events.
  • Deliver or support high-profile civic and public events for the city of international profile.
  • Ensure equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded within the work of the team and is reflected through the organisations supported by the Council.
  • Chair the Events Management Group.
  • Assist in preparation and design of presentational materials and reports.
  • Develop, enhance and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders in cultural and community groups across the city, especially arts, festivals and events organisers.
  • Identify new opportunities for events and festivals for the city to deliver the events strategy.
  • Effective delivery of excellent events and festivals, including improving outcomes in accordance with the Council’s policies, strategies and priorities.
  • Support team-working the Cultural Partnerships team, within the Council and with partners to ensure effective delivery of the Council’s events strategy.
  • Responsible for the preparation and content of reports, other documents, briefings, presentations and FOIs for Council meetings, external agencies, senior officers, including the Council Leadership Group and the relevant committees as well as business and stakeholder groups.
