The City of Edinburgh Council’s in-house legal team has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Solicitor to join its Litigation team. The applicant should have experience of education disputes including presenting cases at the First Tier Tribunal and Placing in School appeals. Experience of other contentious litigation including handling cases in the Sheriff court and/or Judicial Reviews in the Court of Session would be beneficial The team consists of the Principal Solicitor, three Senior Solicitors, one Solicitor. You will be fully supported in a collegiate environment and encouraged to develop a full range of legal and other skills.
The Litigation team provides advice to a wide range of Council services including Licensing, Housing, the Homeless Team, Social Work, Education and Bereavement Services. Your role will focus primarily on Additional Support Needs Tribunals and other education matters. The workload will be varied, challenging and interesting. You will also have the opportunity to assist in other areas of litigation work. Litigation and advocacy skills will be essential to this role. The applicant should have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and the ability to work as part of a team to find solutions to complex problems.
The position is advertised as a full-time position, 36 hours per week, or such other hours as are agreed with the successful candidate; the Council is open to discussing flexible work arrangements.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
