Job Description

Post 1 Two and a half days: 18.25 hours per week Post is fixed term to 30 September. Reduced contracted hours may be available from 1 October and additional relief hours may also be available. Post 2 Five days, Tuesday-Saturday 09:45-17:15: 35 hour per week Fixed term 13 June to 16 September. Additional relief hours may also be available beyond 16 September. The Museum and Archive at Lews Castle is an exciting and busy heritage attraction looking for individuals with exceptional customer service skills. Our Visitor Assistants meet, greet and engage with our visitors, ensuring they receive the highest levels of customer service. As the public face of the Museum they develop a high level of knowledge of our collections to help people learn more about the culture and heritage of the Outer Hebrides and have enjoyable experiences. Visitor Assistants are also responsible for the security of the collections on display and providing a safe environment for visitors and colleagues.

Requirements

Successful candidates will have a clear understanding of the importance of the experience visitors receive and how it influences the public image of the Museum, appreciation of the importance of security and related health and safety issues, a good general level of education, good verbal communication skills, a flexible approach to work, and the ability to work as part of a team. Salary for the above posts are inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance.
