Job Description
Headteacher (7/40351)
Douglas Ewart High School
DHT/HT12 £95,328
Douglas Ewart High School | Dumfries and Galloway Council
We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and forward-thinking leader with a passion for learning and achievement to lead Douglas Ewart High School. Working alongside a senior leadership team, the successful candidate will provide strategic direction, foster excellence in learning and teaching, and ensure the highest aspirations for all young people.
Newton Stewart and the surrounding area offer a wonderful quality of life, set against a backdrop of stunning countryside, unspoilt coastlines and some of the best walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in Scotland. At the heart of the area are strong, welcoming communities where people look out for one another and young people are encouraged to reach their full potential. It is a fantastic place for families, providing a safe and nurturing environment in which children can grow, learn and thrive.
The school plays a central role within this community and benefits from a positive and longstanding relationship with Youth Work Services, helping to support and enrich opportunities for young people both inside and outside the classroom. Newton Stewart is also proud of its international link as the twin town of Marcoussis in France. While often associated with the Machars, the school serves a much wider catchment area, bringing together pupils from communities including Creetown, Carsluith, Glentrool and many other rural areas beyond the Machars. This broad and diverse catchment contributes to the school's rich sense of community, reflecting the many places, families and experiences that come together within it.
The region offers affordable housing and excellent opportunities to enjoy both rural and coastal living. Newton Stewart is easily accessible by road from Dumfries (50 miles), Ayr (44 miles) and Stranraer (25 miles). Ferry services to Northern Ireland operate from Cairnryan.
