We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior Harbour Assistant to be an integral part of the Harbours Team, supporting harbour users at Stranraer, Port William, Isle of Whithorn and Garlieston Harbours.

This post is fixed term for up to 1 year.

This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

To ensure the safe and efficient operation of the harbours and equipment in compliance with the appropriate legislation.

To supervise minor maintenance works within the harbours and navigable channels.

To assist with the administration of berth management, bookings and payment collection.

To manage and supervise the craning and movement of vessels between the water and shore storage areas.

Experience in boat handling is essential, while knowledge of harbours and marina operations including the Port Marine Safety Code is desirable. Good communication will help you engage with members of the public, commercial operators, boat owners and other staff to keep the harbours activity, billing, infrastructure and defect reports accurate. Liaison with contactors will also be required. A driving licence is required for the use of council vehicles to conduct site visits.
