Dumfries and Galloway Council’s award-winning Youth Work Service is seeking an experienced and motivated leader to help shape opportunities for young people across the region and lead some of our most innovative participation and engagement programmes.

As a member of the Youth Work Service Leadership Team, you will provide strategic direction, manage staff and budgets, lead quality improvement activity and represent the Council across local and national partnerships.

Our Youth Work Service is dedicated to empowering young people through a wide range of initiatives and support services. We strive to create a positive and inclusive environment where young people can thrive and reach their full potential.

The key responsibilities of the post include:

This includes the development of programmes that address the needs and interests of young people relevant to youth participation work (including support to Dumfries and Galloway Youth Council and Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament), Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and wider accreditation programmes and the Champions Board (for care experienced young people) and Mobile Youth Work provision.

  • Partnership Working: Build and maintain effective partnerships to enhance the services reach and impact. This includes representing the Service on a range of internal and external strategic partnerships and groups and being the main contact for Commissioned Services and National Youth Work organisations.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Oversee our Health and Safety arrangements, off-site trips and visits and lead our Services information management which monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of youth work programmes.

  • Team Management: Lead, support and develop a team of professional staff, support staff and casual youth workers.

  • Budget Management: Manage programme budgets effectively, ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and within Council financial guidelines.

We are looking for an experienced Youth Work or Community Learning & Development professional with:

  • A degree level qualification in Community Learning & Development, Youth Work or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience of leading youth work programmes and staff.
  • Experience of partnership working and service development.
  • Strong project, budget and performance management skills.
  • A commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable and marginalised young people.
