This is an exceptional opportunity for a talented and ambitious individual to fulfil this statutory Chief Officer role within Dumfries and Galloway Council. We are ambitious for our region, focused on supporting our communities to thrive and prosper and ensuring that we provide quality services and better outcomes for the citizens and communities in Dumfries and Galloway.

As a member of the Council’s Management team, you will work collaboratively with other Chief Officers and Elected Members to deliver the Council’s vision and ambition for our region. You will support a collaborative one-Council approach, transformational change and the work to support the financial sustainability of the Council and address future challenges.

Importantly, you will carry out statutory duties as the Council’s appointed Assessor and Registration Officer and have responsibility for the strategic leadership of the Assessor and Electoral Registration service and functions. You will provide empowerment and support to teams to help them flourish, deliver a high standard of customer service and continue to make a difference to the lives of our citizens.

We are seeking a visible and forward-thinking leader with a track record of success at a senior level within a complex organisation. You must be educated to degree standard or equivalent and be a fellow or member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). You must also have experience and expert knowledge of valuation, local taxation and electoral registration.

The successful candidate will be a first-class communicator with an appreciation and understanding of working within a political environment and the statutory and legislative responsibilities of the role. A strategic approach and vision to deliver change, service improvement, development and implementation of policies, partnership working, financial planning and people management skills together with a strong customer focus is essential.

In return, we offer you a stimulating work environment, where you will be supported by an amazing team of talented and dedicated staff, with enthusiastic colleagues and partners fully engaged in the strategic development of our Council.

Applications are encouraged from individuals who believe they can successfully apply their leadership ability to the challenges we face and the successful delivery of strategic outcomes now and in the future.

Dumfries and Galloway Council is committed to equality and diversity and our values include treating everyone with dignity, fairness and respect which drive us to tackle inequality. We welcome applicants from all sections of the community.
