Dumfries and Galloway Council is ambitious for our region, focused on supporting our communities to thrive and prosper and ensuring that we provide quality services and better outcomes for the citizens and communities in or region. We are passionate about creating a more sustainable and stronger Dumfries and Galloway, recognising that we must be bold and courageous in our investment in infrastructure and in the economy to ensure that we create opportunity for all.

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and ambitious individual to fulfil this newly created strategic leadership role within Dumfries and Galloway Council. Reporting to the Director Economy and Infrastructure, you will have responsibility for the leadership of the Transport and Infrastructure service including Roads Services, Assets and Strategy, Transport and Fleet, Major Projects & Capital Programming, Property and Estates, Building Maintenance, Transportation and Flood Management and Harbours.  You will play an integral role in building and enabling a culture of collaboration, empowerment, and support to our workforce to enable them to flourish, deliver a high standard of customer service and continue to make a difference to the lives of our citizens.

As a member of the Council’s Senior Leadership team, you will work collaboratively with other Chief Officers and Elected Members to deliver the Council’s vision and ambition for our region. You will lead corporate programmes of change, support collaborative working within a one-Council approach, and work to support the financial sustainability of the Council and address future challenges.

We want to hear from exceptionally talented individuals, who can demonstrate adaptive leadership and a forward-thinking approach to service improvement.  You will be educated to degree standard and have a track record of success at a senior level within a complex organisation.

You will be a first-class communicator and a natural relationship manager, with an appreciation and understanding of working within a political environment.  A strategic approach and vision to deliver change, partnership working, development and implementation of policies, financial planning, and people management skills together with a strong customer focus is essential.

In return, we offer you a stimulating work environment, where you will be supported by an amazing team of talented and dedicated staff, with enthusiastic colleagues and partners fully engaged in the strategic development of our Council.

This is an exceptional opportunity and applications are encouraged from individuals who believe they can successfully apply their leadership ability to the challenges we face and the successful delivery of strategic outcomes now and in the future.

Dumfries and Galloway Council is committed to equality and diversity and our values include treating everyone with dignity, fairness and respect which drive us to tackle inequality. We welcome applicants from all sections of the community.

This post is politically restricted in terms of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
