Gaelic Development Officer (Fixed Term)

An exciting new opportunity has arisen within Dumfries and Galloway Council for a Gaelic Development Officer who will play a key role in taking forward our priorities identified within our Gaelic language Plan 2022-2027.

Funded through Bòrd na Gàidhlig, this fixed term post for 1 year will work closely with the Lifelong Learning Manager and voluntary group Gàidhlig Dumgal to take forward the main aim of the National Gaelic Language Plan 2023 - 2028 within our region which is “increasing the use and learning of Gaelic”.

 

This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post

 

You will be responsible for increasing Gaelic learning opportunities for the community and Council staff; building upon work already underway to recognise Gaelic cultural significance within Dumfries and Galloway and develop opportunities linked to tourism/heritage working with our cultural partners.

Educated to SCQF level 8 or equivalent you will be able to speak and write in Gaelic and be passionate about developing and promoting the language within our region. The successful candidate will have experience of partnership working, supporting and identifying community needs, being well organised and have the ability to work of their own initiative.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

 

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

 

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
