Job Requirement – Support for Learning Assistant

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated Support for Learning Assistant. The successful candidate will be provide support for children and young people with additional support needs within St Ninian’s High School. Support will be predominantly for one pupil, but you may be required to support a range of learners in the course of the working day.

Within agreed Council and school strategy, you will be responsible for the personal care needs of pupils to ensure their health and wellbeing. You will be responsible for provision of a high level of individual and personal care e.g. feeding, toileting, changing, applying medical aids, administration of medication; or assisting pupils with specialist apparatus.

Under the direction of the subject teacher, you will help pupils with specific learning activities and to follow instructions and organise their work. A good knowledge of ICT and willingness to communicate using Alternative and Augmentative Communication Supports are essential for this role.

When required you will provide supervision for pupils out with the classroom eg in PE and organised school trips.

You will have a pleasant tolerant manner and a proven capacity to establish positive relationships with children and young people.

A relevant qualification in childcare is desirable.

Where the post you are applying for is considered Regulated Work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment.  

In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by HR Services Lead.  

Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary.  

The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
