Monday - Friday, 09:00-17:00
1 in 4 Saturdays, 09:30-16:00
1 late night every 4 weeks on  Monday, 11:00-19:00

Haddington Library, based in the John Gray Centre, is the busiest lending library in East Lothian and provides activities within the building and beyond for all ages working with partners to support the local community.

Our libraries adapt and develop activities and services based on local need and the successful candidate should be able to demonstrate how they have worked to liaise with partners and engage with communities. The postholder will also act as the Health and Wellbeing lead for the library service engaging with local and national partners to establish libraries as trusted local sources of health and wellbeing information and inclusive spaces with activities aimed at reducing social isolation and enhancing wellbeing.

Our service could not operate without our dedicated, enthusiastic and passionate staff and our Community Librarians manages teams of staff based across different locations. The Community Librarian based in the John Gray Centre will line manage the teams in Haddington and Longniddry and it is essential that the successful candidate has experience in motivating and supporting teams through change as well as key management tasks such as training and development and performance management.

Job Details

To provide comprehensive and quality front line library and customer services within East Lothian.

To work with schools and other partners to provide a service which is responsive to the needs of the local community.

To manage and develop a team of staff across multiple locations.

To provide and manage a range of resources.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
Degree level qualification or equivalent in Librarianship or Information Science and/or postgraduate qualification in Librarianship or Information Science and/or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through significant experience of managing a team delivering customer services and/or library services.

PVG Membership
This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
