The Council is seeking to recruit a senior solicitor to join the in - house Legal team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will be expected to operate primarily in the field of regulatory and employment law and to undertake a broad range of legal work including research, the provision of advice, development of policy recommendations and representation within those disciplines. You would also be expected to sit as legal adviser on a variety of regulatory committees including the Licensing Board and committee and to oversee the work of other staff (both solicitors and administrative) in these fields.

The role encompasses line management responsibility for staff and close working relationships with other senior solicitors within the team to ensure smooth and efficient handling of the wide and varied workload.  It also entails deputising for the Chief Legal Officer as circumstances require. Given the size of the service there is also an expectation that the successful candidate will occasionally assist in other areas of work within the job description as reasonably required by the Chief Legal Officer.

Applicants should have a current practising certificate and the ability to research and deliver high quality, practical and timely legal advice and guidance in a professional manner whilst managing a broad personal caseload and ensuring proper prioritisation of work. You should have well developed skills in written and oral communication and be able to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships with other team members, officers of client services, elected members and the public.

Depending upon the needs of the service, staff in Hybrid roles will typically work from home for up to 40-60% of the time where the needs of the service can still be met.
