Job Details

Protective Services forms a wide range of statutory and advisory services designed to protect public health and consumer safety through Building Standards, Environmental Health and Trading Standards functions.

Under the leadership and direction of the Service Manager, you may have a range of responsibilities including:

  • Maintain an overview of the Building Standards & Public Safety Team’s activities to meet agreed targets by the allocation of staff/resources to meet competing priorities.
  • Allocate and schedule work on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with, and assist in developing, quality assurance and best practice procedures.
  • To ensure that all processes, policies and protocols (technical, team, H&S, workload and customer services) are followed to support the provision of all BS & PS services.

Our Lead Professionals generally work within a specific workstream and you may be asked to lead on the building warrant approval, compliance, or enforcement. You will find more information about the job and the type of person we are looking for in the role profile.

The Person

If you meet the essential qualification criteria outlined below, we’d like to hear from you:

  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant subject.
  • Considerable post qualification experience in Building Standards & Public Safety with moderate experience in a higher level post preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of Building Standards & Public Safety legislation, regulations and service delivery.
  • Membership of appropriate professional body.

You will be required to participate in the out of hours service on a rotational basis, including weekends and public holiday periods, to respond to dangerous building incidents.
