Job Description

Glasgow Life is looking for a Volunteering Officer to join us on a full time, fixed term contract for a period up to 3 years. As Volunteering Officer you will be joining our in-demand Glasgow Libraries Health and Wellbeing Team, which sits within a wider Libraries Service Development Team. You will be part of a dedicated team which support all aspects of volunteer programme delivery, ensuring that our programme(s) are inclusive and inspiring for volunteers and that volunteers are supported throughout the delivery of our programmes.

As a Volunteering Officer you’ll be joining our Glasgow Life Libraries team. Libraries provide a cultural and creative place for all ages. They offer a place to read for pleasure and purpose, and collections which support literacy development. Glasgow's Libraries also have e-lending, author talks, book groups and festivals. People can access special collections as well as archives and family/local history. Libraries are also an important place where the digitally excluded can get online and access a range of resources. The role
As a Volunteering Officer you’ll be an integral part of the team by supporting all aspects of volunteer programme delivery, ensuring that our programme(s) are inclusive and inspiring for volunteers and that volunteers are supported throughout the delivery of our programmes.
Key responsibilities of the role will include volunteer management for library programmes. This includes responsibility for recruitment, training, support and development, scheduling/rotas, recognition, and volunteer exit processes.
Volunteer programmes within libraries currently includes;
o Macmillan @ Glasgow Libraries
o Home Library Service
o Memories Scotland
o Festivals and Author Events
o Every Child A Library Member Initiatives.
This list is not exhaustive but representative of the services volunteers are likely to
engage in.

Reporting to the Health Information Partnership Manager and working alongside an established team.
The candidate
If you’re interested in joining us as a Volunteering Officer, you’ll need:
• Experience of supervising person centred services involving volunteers and a training record that exemplifies volunteer centred practice.
• Ability to manage the day to day delivery of high quality people centred services
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to supervisor and motivate people
• Experience in delivering training programmes

You will be based within a team in The Mitchell Library; however our city-wide contracts mean you will be flexible to work in any of our locations and travel between venues will be required.

Some of our roles are currently piloting hybrid working, with teams working between the office and home. Your line manager will agree these days with you. This balance enables you to continue much-needed collaborative working.

This role is working Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm with the requirement to be flexible for evening and weekends during events.
