Job Description
As part of the largest local authority in Scotland, Education Services, makes up one of the five services within Glasgow City Council and is responsible for the teaching and learning of around 80,000 children and young people across the authority’s nursery, primary, secondary, and additional support needs sectors.
As a Head of Service, you will lead on the development and delivery of service excellence across Educational Services within a defined geographical area to achieve our aims and objectives. You will also be responsible for leading, developing and delivering a strategic approach for a number of functional activities which will contribute to raising attainment and achievement, especially for those living with the greatest levels of deprivation. The current post-holder has responsibility for quality improvement and leadership.
As part of the senior management team, the successful candidate will work to improve the outcomes for children and young people in Glasgow, ensuring resources are aligned with the Council’s commitment to improved school performance, whilst reducing the attainment gap.
You must be able to demonstrate an in depth understanding of education services and have a proven track record of leading and managing at a senior level the strategic direction of a range of services, similar in portfolio.
To succeed in this role you must bring leadership, energy, and vision together with strong stakeholder management. You will be an innovative thinker, dynamic and focused on continuously driving forward service improvements to achieve Council objectives and outcomes.
Crucially, you must have a passion for ensuring the children and young people of Glasgow receive a consistently high quality education which will provide them with the necessary skills for learning, life, and work.
You should be educated to, at least, degree level in a relevant discipline and eligible for registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland or Scottish Social Services Council registration or equivalent.
Membership of Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment along with eligibility for registration with GTCS, SSSC.
Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 this post is politically restricted.
