Job Description

An opportunity has arisen within Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability for a Network Operator to join our TRAFFCOM service within the Glasgow Operations Centre on a permanent basis.

Position Details

Working within TRAFFCOM, you will be involved in the operation of Glasgow City Council’s traffic control and driver information systems, and other network management/control systems.

The role is critical to ensure that the city road network and traffic signals continue to work, and that traffic can move around the city in an effective way.

You must have good communication skills, be logical and methodical with the ability to cope with pressure.  Excellent IT skills, knowledge of using complex computer systems and being capable of taking responsibility and making operational decisions is essential. A flexible approach to working irregular hours to meet the needs of the Service is required.

An HND/HNC or equivalent in a technical or science discipline, previous experience in the operation of traffic control/monitoring systems and an understanding of traffic control systems is desirable.

Contract Details

Weekly Hours: an average of 37 hours plus 0.33 hours contractual overtime

Work Pattern: 5 shifts on, 2 shifts off, 5 shifts on, 3 shifts off before the pattern repeats, which are within the hours of 7am and midnight.

Annual Salary: £28,529.79 - £32,363.72 on an incremental scale

Additional Payments: In addition to the annual salary the role attracts a non-standard work pattern/hours (NSWPH) payment of £10,145 per annum.

As part of the pre-employment checks for this post the successful candidate(s) will have to undergo a Non-Police Personnel Vetting Level 1 check which assesses the honesty, integrity, reliability, and overall suitability for clearance of non-police personnel who have unsupervised physical and/or remote access to police premises, classified police information and/or intelligence, financial or operational assets, and/or police systems.
