Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registration Officer, within the Registration Service for Births, Deaths and Marriages.

Located over 3 sites in Glasgow; 45 John Street, 23 Montrose Street and the Mitchell Library, the post holder will be required to deliver a variety of registration services in a busy, front-facing, fact paced office environment,  reporting to the Registration Service Team Leader but under the general direction of the Registration Service Manager.  

You will manage the day to day activities, providing specialist knowledge,  guidance and support to citizens and the team.  This will involve over-seeing the Registration of Births, Stillbirths, Deaths, Marriages and Civil Partnerships ensuring statutory and procedural compliance and also delivering these services.  

The Registration Officer is responsible for accurate maintenance of all records held and ensuring that all statutory requirements are processed and completed in accordance with prescribed procedures.  This includes responsibility for the data protection of all records and personal information held as part of regulatory requirements. 

You will be an excellent public speaker and will conduct ceremonies within council premises and at various locations throughout the City.  This will routinely involve working weekends and public holidays therefore a flexible approach to both location and the working week is essential.   In addition to this urgent registrations out with office hours will be required on an on-call basis, in accordance with service demands. 

You will also assist with continuous improvement and be involved in the training and performance of staff; assisting with the implementation of new processes and procedures to enable the effective delivery of Registration Services, supporting as necessary, the Registration Service Team Leader and the Registration Service Manager.  

In addition to the above registration activities you will also direct and supervise the work of back office and service desk support, which will involve  dealing with customer enquires and any escalated issues, resource management and deployment.  

Applicants should have substantial experience within the Registration Service and should hold the Certificate in the Law and Practice of Registration in Scotland.

This post is Part Time 17.5 Hours (5/7) days per week.

Salary for this post will be pro –rata.
