Job Description

An opportunity has arisen within Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability for a Supervisor to join our Roads team on a permanent basis.

Position Details

You will be part of an operational Road team responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Glasgow’s Road infrastructure. Reporting to the depot management team, the post holder will support the delivery of the NRS Roads Maintenance internal Road Maintenance programmes; to comply with the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 statutory duty to manage, maintain and improve the City’s surface street network and deliver the Council’s strategic priorities.

You will supervise the dayshift team, managing a wide variety of maintenance works and competing demands. Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and CDM legislation; the risk-based approach of the Code of Practice Well - Managed Highway Infrastructure and SRWR noticing compliance; absence management and productivity. You will ensure that works are delivered safely on time, within budget and to a high standard. The post holder will and will be responsible for mentoring, developing, and training staff as well as maximising attendance and disciplinary procedures.

To be successful you will need to possess good communication skills, knowledge of Health and Safety, the ability to deal with the public and see tasks through to completion, as well as having a can-do attitude to resolving problems as they arise.

A current LGV Licence, and a driver’s Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and current full category C driving licence are essential.

You should be skilled and experienced in the laying of bituminous materials by machine or hand; Kerbing/paving/slabbing, setting out ironwork or general drainage/ground works. A HAUC or CSCS or CITB cards are all desirable. You must also be prepared to work in a physically demanding role in all weather conditions.

Contract Details

Weekly Hours: 37

Work Pattern: 4 shifts on, 4 shifts off dayshifts

Annual Salary: £33,700.21 - £39,251.78 on an incremental scale

Additional Payments: In addition to the annual salary the role attracts a non-standard work pattern/hours (NSWPH) payment of £2,018 per annum plus a working context & demand (WCD) payment of £689 per annum.
