Job Description
The Accountancy Technicians are responsible for assisting in the provision of a comprehensive Accountancy Service to all areas of the Council. Areas include Departmental Revenue and Capital expenditure, Common Good, Trust Funds, and other bodies connected to the Council. The post-holder will primarily be assigned to budget monitoring support across all departments and also to support one main Department, (which will be subject to rotation), however duties are not restricted to this department.
These posts are recognised Training Posts, within an approved Scheme. The postholder is required to study for a suitable Accountancy Qualification (e.g. HNC/D or AAT) as approved by the Head of Financial Services. The choice of study programme will be agreed between the candidate and the Principal Accountant (Training).
The tasks and responsibilities of the postholder will be those commensurate with experience and ability as agreed at six monthly appraisal interviews with the Technician’s line manager and Principal Accountant (Training) and signed off by the Head of Financial Services. The placement on the salary scale on appointment will also reflect this.
Requirements
Preparation of the Budget Monitoring Reports
Budget Monitoring Enquiries
Preparation of invoices and other financial transactions for processing
Assist in the Annual Accounts/Annual Reports, Whole of Government Accounts (WGA) and Financial Planning process
General Ledger Training
Perform Ad hoc tasks as required

The Individual
Work experience in a similar environment in the UK
4 SQA Standard Grades or equivalent (achieved in 1 diet to include Maths & English, at level 3 or above)
2 SQA Highers or equivalent at level 3 or above
Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office packages including Excel
Self confident and self motivated
Aptitude for working with figures.
Ability to work to deadlines.
Ability to accurately record data
Flexible attitude to work allocation.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Desire and commitment for further education
Effective communication skills; oral and written
Willingness to accept direction/delegation
Appreciation, acceptance of and a commitment to the importance of confidentiality
Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service
Ability to work in an open plan office
Ability to work in different offices dependent on service requirements
