Job Summary

North Ayrshire is seeking to appoint an independent Chair, or Chairs, for the Adult and Child Protection Committees.

Allowance: £400 per day - 2 year fixed term with option for plus 2,

Child Protection Committee – Up to 4 days per month

Adult Protection Committee – Up to 4 days per month

Location: Home working with travel to North Ayrshire as required.

 Most meetings will be scheduled in advance however the chair must be available for ad hoc meetings to undertake specific actions in relation to reviews.

As Chair you will ensure the Committee fulfils their duties in accordance with national guidance and legislation. You will contribute to service development and continuous improvement, oversee effective quality assurance and self -evaluation processes, provide strategic public protection leadership, linking with other relevant strategic groups and undertake all associated Committee chair responsibilities and functions.

The role is critical to each of the Committees fulfilling its remit for co-ordination, planning, improvement and public engagement for the purposes of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults in North Ayrshire.

You will be expected to provide the North Ayrshire Chief Officers Group with assurance on the effectiveness of multi-agency working in relation to adult or child protection services.

You will also represent North Ayrshire at national level, linking with the Scottish Government to ensure the committees continue to participate in and are informed on national developments.

For each role we require a highly motivated and credible individual with proven leadership abilities. You should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of national developments in relation to Adult or Child Protection and their interconnection with the wider public protection agenda. You will work closely with all key partners.

You must have substantial experience of work at senior, strategic and operational level, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and have a successful track record in leading internal and external strategy and public sector governance processes. You should also be able to evidence understanding of the relevant legislation, guidance, policy and practice within which the Adult or Child Protection Committees operate.

You should be educated to degree level with a relevant professional qualification. The Chairs’ role for each committee is distinct. Applications from people interested in undertaking the role for both committees will be accepted.

Additional Information

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by North Ayrshire Council.

As per legislation, the Adult Protection Committee convener must not be a member or officer of the council.
