Curriculum Leader Art and Design

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and innovative individual to join our team at UHI Orkney as temporary Curriculum Leader, Art and Design.

UHI Orkney is the main provider of further and higher education across Orkney. It is a truly tertiary institution, offering a broad curriculum covering community short courses, evening classes, local business focused training, secondary school subjects, vocational and academic qualifications up to and including Doctoral degrees.

The institution benefits from its dual status as a partner of UHI, wholly owned by Orkney Islands Council, which gives it strong roots in the local community and a focus on supporting the local economy, alongside a national and international reach. The UHI Institutes of Northern Studies, Archaeology and Agronomy are all based at UHI Orkney, with research programmes rated as world and international class.

UHI Orkney’s Strategic Plan aims to put it at the forefront of delivering skills and knowledge which support development in key local sectors such as the green and blue economies, culture, heritage and tourism.

As temporary Curriculum Leader Art and Design you will be responsible for the effective management of staff and other resources in Art and Design ensuring delivering provision within a managed and balanced budget. You will be responsible for operational and resource planning, line management and quality assurance working with the UHI Orkney Management team and departmental staff to continue to build upon the excellent provision in Art and Design at UHI Orkney. Please note that this post will be predominantly a management position.

You will have a desire to drive forward new advancements in practice and research as well as promote existing provision in Art and Design, whilst continuing to develop the team here in Orkney. You will require a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, and you will be qualified to a minimum of SCQF level 10, Honours degree. You are also required to hold a TQFE or other recognised equivalent lecturing/teaching qualification at SCQF level 9, recognised by GTCS for the purpose of registering in colleges or schools in Scotland

You must be registered with GTCS as a Lecturer, or be able to gain registration, in line with National Bargaining arrangements.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

This post is subject to membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.
