Garage Mechanic

Permanent
Monday - Thursday 8.00am – 4.00pm, Friday 8am – 3.30pm, Saturday 8.00am – 4.00pm (when on the rota)
£33,448 - £35,910 / £17.34 - £18.61 per hour (including shift allowance and Distant Islands Allowance)

We are looking to recruit a Garage Mechanic to join our team at the Council’s Hatston Garage. The work is varied and can cover the maintenance, vehicle safety inspections and repairs of all OIC vehicles and plant. Some vehicles are specialist in nature therefor experience in auto electrics, hydraulics, diagnostics and fabrication work would be an advantage, although training will be given for the right applicant.

Good timekeeping, reliability and self-motivation are essential qualities given you will be working to deadlines. You should also have a proven ability of using your initiative to ensure tasks are completed safely and on time.

A shift allowance payment is included in the salary and generous holiday and pension entitlement. You will be required to work on Saturdays on an approved rota, generally one in three weeks, although this may change at times to suit workload demands.

This post requires participation in a standby duty rota for which additional allowances will be paid.

A ‘B’ class (car) driving licence is essential and a ‘C’ class LGV driving licence is desirable (there will be the opportunity to gain your LGV licence as part of your ongoing training if required).
