We have a vacancy for a dedicated individual, to join our Housing team to cover maternity leave. This is a varied role which will be based initially in our Housing Management Section. The postholder will have opportunities to transfer between sections should a vacancy arise.

The post covers the provision of general housing advice and will focus on the maintenance of the Council’s housing waiting list and the allocation of Council houses and garages in accordance with Council policies and procedures, whilst endeavouring to keep void periods to a minimum. In addition it covers all tenancy breaches including rent arrears and anti-social behaviour.

To be successful, you will have the ability to provide a high level of customer care and be a good, confident communicator who is able to cope with a wide variety of situations. In addition, the post requires a flexible attitude and the ability to work under pressure and adapt to changes in legislation.

You will require experience in giving and receiving information both verbally and in writing and are likely to have already worked with the public in demanding situations. In addition, you should have excellent analytical, written and IT skills. You will be required to hold or complete the Professional Development Award in Housing Law for Advisers at the first intake following appointment.

The postholder will have the opportunity to transfer to an equivalent post within our Housing Management Section should a vacancy arise.

For appointment at Grade F: You should have a good general standard of education including literacy and numeracy and you must hold the Professional Development Award in Housing Law for Advisors at Level 7 or complete at the next intake following appointment.

For appointment at or progression to Grade G: You must have successfully completed the Chartered Institute of Housing’s Level 4 certificate in Housing Practice.

You will be required to attend training courses within and outwith Orkney.

This post is subject to membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with adults.

You should hold a full current driving licence (please note the Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so if you are unable to drive due to a disability your application will still be able to be considered).
