We have a temporary post available in the Revenues and Benefits service. You will work at the Council Offices, Kirkwall, within a small office-based team responsible for dealing with all aspects of administering and collecting debts owed to the Council, predominantly Council Tax but also including other debts.

You will act as the officer with day-to-day responsibility for the recovery of arrears, including taking recovery action against debtors. Duties will include contacting debtors to ensure engagement in the recovery process and recording debtor outcomes.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual who will be a trusted team member in often highly confidential and sensitive matters. You will be working in a busy environment which will call upon you to respond quickly to changing priorities. You should have previous experience of dealing with the public and managing your own workload without supervision.

Applicants should either hold a qualification at SCQF 6/7 (i.e., SVQ3, National Certificate, Foundation Apprenticeship, Advanced Higher, Scottish Baccalaureate, HNC, Certificate of Higher Education) or have a minimum of 3 years’ previous relevant experience.

The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme, which is a career average revalued earnings (CARE) defined benefit scheme, for which the employer contribution paid is currently 17%, representing a benefit from £3,923 to £4,234 in addition to the salary paid.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

This post is subject to Basic Disclosure Scotland clearance.

Prospective applicants are invited to discuss the post by contacting Carole Graves, Service Manager (Revenues and Benefits) on 01856 886389, or via e-mail: carole.graves@orkney.gov.uk

Closing Date: Wednesday 22 November 2023

Please note that interview expenses are not payable for this post.
