We have a permanent post available in the Revenues and Benefits service.

You will work at the Council Offices, Kirkwall, within a small office-based team responsible for dealing with all aspects of administering and collecting debts owed to the Council – predominantly Council Tax, but also including other debts.

You will act as the officer with day-to-day responsibility for the recovery of arrears, including taking recovery action against debtors. Duties will include contacting debtors to ensure engagement in the recovery process and recording debtor outcomes.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual. You will be working in a busy environment which will call upon you to respond quickly to changing priorities and will also be a trusted team member in often highly confidential and sensitive matters. You should have previous experience of dealing with the public and managing your own workload without supervision. You will be encouraged to gain a professional qualification via the IRRV.

We are looking for someone who has a qualification at SCQF 6/7 i.e., SVQ3, National Certificate, Foundation Apprenticeship, Advanced Higher, Scottish Baccalaureate, HNC, Certificate of Higher Education or has a minimum of 3 years previous relevant experience, as detailed in the experience section of this person specification.

The postholder will be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme which is a career average revalued earnings (CARE) defined benefit scheme for which the employer contribution paid is currently 17% representing a benefit from £3,923 to £4,234 in addition to the salary paid.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
