We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to join our team as Roads and Environmental Services Technician.
The successful candidate will provide operational and technical support to the Roads and Grounds Operations Team in the delivery of planned, cyclical, reactive and emergency works across Roads and Environmental Services. This role will include focus on Roads Construction and Maintenance together with the associated infrastructure, Winter Service and Emergency response.
The post holder will assist in the delivery of front line services as part of the Roads and Grounds team. Duties will involve investigation and survey works, including setting out to line and level and the collection of survey data and the technical supervision of works on site.
The post holder will also be required to co-ordinate all information required to progress works, including technical details, service plans, regulatory notices and notifications, requiring liaison with staff within the Roads Support Team, other members of staff within the Council, statutory undertakers, contractors and other agencies.
You will be required to undertake the organisation and supervision of Forepersons and frontline staff as directed by the Team Leader Operations, and so experience of dealing with front line employees is desirable.
An SVQ3 or equivalent in a construction, engineering or waste/environmental related subject is essential.
You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
