You will be reporting to Visitor Services Officer, Orkney Museum.

Your working pattern is 28 hours per week between Wednesday to Saturday. We are happy to talk flexible working, where possible.

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the smooth and welcoming operation of The Orkney Museum by supporting visitors, safeguarding collections, and ensuring the building remains a safe and engaging environment for all.

We’re seeking a friendly, proactive individual to join us as a Visitor Services Assistant, helping to create a welcoming and engaging experience for all visitors. In this varied role, you’ll offer guidance around the museum, share knowledge about our collections, support customers in the museum shop, and ensure public spaces remain inviting and accessible. You’ll respond to visitor enquiries with confidence and courtesy, contributing to a positive and memorable museum visit.

Alongside front-of‑house duties, you’ll help care for the building and its collections by monitoring gallery spaces, following security procedures, completing routine administrative tasks, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness. As a key holder, you’ll also take responsibility for opening and closing the museum and responding to occasional out‑of‑hours alarms. If you enjoy working with people, take pride in practical, hands‑on work, and want to support the care and enjoyment of local heritage, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
