£27,654 - £30,458 (32.4 hours/week)
The Roads Partnership Office, Signal Box Road, Blairgowrie PH10 6ER.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, practical, and well-organised individual to join our Greenspace Ranger team within Community Greenspace. Within the role you will work to promote and encourage volunteering opportunities in a wide range of Council greenspaces.

You will assist with community engagement on greenspace projects and themes and implement an agreed programme of greenspace tasks to provide opportunities for community involvement and management on greenspace sites and path networks, these can include path condition reports, supporting local path groups with vegetation control and upgrades, and tree and bulb planting with community groups. The Ranger will also undertake greenspace site condition inspections for repair programmes and safety purposes, including tree and water safety inspections. The Community Greenspace team is responsible for managing the council’s statutory duty in relation to core paths and managing access rights under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. The Ranger will be required to assist the team with investigations of obstructions on the ground and reporting back.

This is a multidisciplined role which requires candidates to use their own initiative, manage their own work, whilst sometimes lone working and working outdoors in all weather conditions. The Eastern & Highland ranger is based in Blairgowrie and covers Strathmore, Dunkeld & the Pitlochry area bordering onto the Cairngorms National Park at Strathardle and Glenshee. The post is based at the Blairgowrie Roads Office, with flexible working arrangements to enable the postholder to work from other offices or from home within the requirements of the role.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will be required to have excellent communication skills, be customer focused and enthusiastic with a flexible approach to work. You will present yourself positively, be confident and able to stay calm under pressure. You will be an innovative problem solver with the ability to develop strong working relationships within Community Greenspace, across the organisation and with partner organisations. You will be able to demonstrate you have effective verbal and written communication skills and have working knowledge of MS office. You will have experience of delivering training workshops and presentations to a range of audiences including aspects of health and safety information.  You will also be able to demonstrate an understanding of health and safety legislation in relation to the role and be able to produce written risk assessments for volunteer tasks and other work-related activities.  The ranger should have proven knowledge of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and be confident in dealing with related enquires and investigating issues on the ground.  You will be able to demonstrate your ability to meet deadlines, respond to queries and deal with all customer enquiries (either internal or external) in a knowledgeable manner.  You will have knowledge and understanding of the voluntary sector and have successfully delivered environmental projects in partnership with community groups or other third sector organisations.

You must be able to demonstrate significant experience in an appropriate work-related discipline and have experience within a local authority or similar organisation or alternatively you will have an HND or equivalent in a relevant field.

You must have a valid driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
