We have an exciting opportunity for an individual who would be interested in being a Public Transport Technician with the Council’s Public Transport Unit based at 2 High Street, Perth.
Our Public Transport Technicians are at the heart of what the Public Transport Unit does. This fast paced and varied role will involve all aspects of planning, monitoring and administration of the Council’s subsidised Local Bus Services, Home to School and Adult Day Care transport contracts, and working with community transport providers. The role includes a wide range of other transport related work including responsibilities for bus stop infrastructure and roadside publicity.
The work will involve the development, procurement and monitoring of all the Council’s financially supported public and education transport services. This will include collecting, collating, maintaining and analysing both on vehicle survey and electronic ticket machine information and/or other data to allow you to make recommendations to develop or change the transport services.
The role will also include pupil and client data management for the home to school and adult day care transport services, assisting with the monitoring and control of financial arrangements for third party payments for local bus, home to school and adult day care transport services along with investigating and reporting on enquiries pertaining to these transport services.

The post is on a Career Grade Structure and there will be scope to progress through the grades from TAS4 to TAS6 and then to TAS7 following the completion of a transport related qualification and relevant experience. The successful candidate will be placed on the Structure in line with their experience and qualifications.
The Public Transport Unit are responsible for a wide range of duties and staff may be required to carry out other tasks within the department, compatible with their abilities, as its priorities might require.
Requirements
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who is a pro-active and effective communicator, with a polite and discrete manner and excellent problem solving and customer service skills. You must be flexible, able to multitask and prioritise your work, whilst meeting legislative deadlines.
You should be able to use your own initiative and be able to manage your time effectively and be able to achieve the required outputs which are essential in this position. You should be able to work under pressure whilst remaining calm and professional, therefore experience of dealing with difficult conversations and situations would be a distinct advantage in this role.
You will be computer literate with proven IT skills, as you will be required to use computers and a number of software systems on a daily basis to carry out the role. You must have a minimum HNC (or equivalent) qualification in a related discipline and be able to demonstrate experience in the delivery of project work.

You must have a valid driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
