£32,217 - £48,516 (pro-rata)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Pupil Support Teacher to join our Support for Learning department on a fixed term basis until August 2025.  Although this post is initially 0.6FTE, there may be an opportunity for this to be increased to 0.8FTE on a short term basis until November 2024.

Whilst the majority of your time will be spent supporting pupils in subject classes, there is an expectation that on occasion, and depending on the needs of the service, you may be required to teach in our Intensive Support Provision.  The ISP supports pupils with severe and complex needs.

The successful candidate will have the appropriate qualifications, registration and relevant experience to undertake the 5 roles of a Pupil Support Teacher, namely:

1. Identification & Assessment 

Early identification of pupils. Assessments, screening & dissemination/feedback to parents/carers/staff/multi agency colleagues including participation in CYPP meetings and internal House team meetings

2. Planning learning and teaching

Including co operative teaching with class teachers and effective direction of Pupil Support Assistants in class assisting.  

Planning and delivering specialised/focused programmes and sometimes bespoke curriculum to meet the needs of all young people is integral to the role.

At times PS teachers teach alongside class teachers in the classroom or Pupil Support Assistants. Clear aims should be set out beforehand and subsequently reviewed.  This helps provide direct support to and monitoring the progress of all pupils in class; developing classroom strategies with the subject teacher and assisting in recording and assessment.

3. Consultancy/Consultation

Consultancy can take place in many forms: from simply giving advice to working collaboratively with individuals or departments.  Effective learning and teaching strategies may be discussed and developed and suitable resources identified and made available.

4. Partnership With Specialist Services

Colleagues in schools/educational services and multiagency colleagues e.g.  NHS, social work and voluntary agencies.

5. Contributing to Professional Developments

    •Sharing of insight, experience and resources.
    •Presentation of in-service sessions; twighlight.
    •Offering guidance on accessible resources/ materials, curriculum, equipment and approaches.
    •Sharing effective strategies, disseminating information from courses attended.
    •Disseminating information to staff  on P & K procedures, legislation and guidelines.

About the School

Blairgowrie High School is the sole secondary school for East Perthshire, and covers a wide catchment area of beautiful landscapes.  For leisure time, the area offers many wonderful opportunities for outdoor pursuits and pastimes but is close enough to Perth and Dundee if it is city pursuits you are after.  To the West we extend almost to Dunkeld; to the North our area stretches up Glenshee past the Spittal, to the border with Aberdeenshire Council; to the East our area extends to the Angus border and finally to the South-East, Tullybaccart – the highest point on the road between Coupar Angus and Dundee – is our boundary with Dundee Council.

Our associated Primary Schools are Alyth, Burrelton, Coupar Angus, Glendelvine, Kettins, Kirkmichael, Meigle, Newhill, Rattray and St Stephen’s.

The Individual

The successful post-holder should have a thorough knowledge of how to address barriers to learning that may exist for a young person, and, importantly, know how to address and overcome these barriers.

We are looking for an individual who has excellent communication skills, is a strong team player, and who has a calm and nurturing solution focussed approach when working with young people.
